SURROUNDED BY MERMAIDS

What are these summer photos doing in the midst of winter? You will ask, but I can explain. I was driving on the motorway the other day, midst heavy cloud. The day was gloomy. Then the radio starts to play amazing Greek summer songs, lyrics by Odysseas Elytis, music by Linos Kokotos. The first song is a hymn to the sun, and, can you believe it, out goes the sun from the clouds, making the day bright! It was so cool! 😎

In that first song, the poet is at sea, surrounded by mermaids, starfish and cricket song. So he asks the crickets, "Is Sun the King still alive, then"? (Ο Βασιλιάς ο Ήλιος ζει;) The crickets sing, "of course! Sun the King lives"! (Ζει, και ζει και ζει και ζει, ο Βασιλιάς ο Ήλιος ζει) ☀️☀️☀️
In the second song, the poet is a young man, who falls in love with a girl who is also a dolphin!

Elytis's poetry belongs to a magic world all of its own. You can see that it can turn the weather, and lighten a heavy winter day. Elytis was a magnificent poet. Wherever he might be now, I am sure he is as free and bright in death as he was in life.
Have a great evening, always with beauty and a book! 💋🌹💄💝💝👠💄#books #summer #Cyprus #Greece #sun #OdysseasElytis
