I was ill with food poisoning -still not well- so The Lipstick Papers sadly got left behind. These photos are from a few days ago, with the 2nd reason to expect autumn: a shawl, gift from a dear friend! Shawls had great cultural value (they were cultural capital, as Bourdieu would say) for the Victorians, and I think that they are still seen as classy.
The Victorians saw the shawl as something exotic - the materials, and sometimes the shawl itself, came from the East. Also, it signified the home values of fashion, elegance and domesticity.
I guess for us the shawl will mean Hermes, Paris couture and all that's feminine. The new, pretty pink shawl is, for me, another reason to expect autumn, a season I really dislike
