UNFORTUNATELY FOR OUR BELOVED CHRISTIAN GREY

Are tattoos protected by law? Of course! They are freedom of expression under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (hereby called the Convention 😉). Unless they contain obscenity or racial/ hate speech, they are protected. Also, together with surgery, tattoo and body piercing is among the few occasions where an individual can consent to violence done against them. (Unfortunately for our beloved Christian Grey, sadomasochism is not one of those occasions. BDSM is illegal). Premiering the new tattoo! Isn't it perfect???? I was so ill recently that I had to delay showing off the lotus flower tat. I'm OK now, and here I am this afternoon 😀

A couple of years ago, I heard a tattoo expert speaking on the radio. I don't remember his name, but I think he attends tattoo conventions, panels and does research. He maintained that, though tattoos are now in vogue, they will always be transgressive. This is because, (a) they are dangerous, (b) when you do a tattoo you let a stranger touch your skin with a needle, and, (c) there will always be people who disapprove of them.

This won't be the last tattoo, of course. More to come!
Have a great evening, always with beauty and a book! 💄💝💋💄💄

FAST FORWARD NOW

I rush into Bridge House bookstore in Nicosia, and, darting to the fantasy section, I fall upon the new books catalogue. I leaf through with expectation. I find what I'm looking for. There it is! The final part of Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is coming out in April! Glory. I'll be in England then! I'll buy it the day it hits the stores. The year is 1993; there is no World Wide Web, and the only way to find out about new publications is through book catalogues. Catalogues printed ON PAPER. In real, actual, PHYSICAL BOOKSTORES!!!!

Fast forward now to 2017, and I follow author Tad Williams on Twitter, learning that he is getting back to the world of Osten Ard (the world of Memory, Sorrow and Thorn) for a new trilogy. So cool! The first part has just come out, and here it is 😀

I started reading last night, and also skimmed through to check things out. The writing is very good, as usual with Tad Williams, though sometimes he may go on and on in minute detail. Also, as usual, he is at his best when he is writing the Prince Josua plot line. I still wonder why he didn't make Josua (and now his son) the protagonists, as they seem to inspire him more 🤔

Very excited with the new book! 💝💋💄❤️🌹👠💄💄

A BEAUTY SECRET WEAPON

Applying lipstick after an illness is definitely an act of victory! Still, I have a long way to go, coz I'm not supposed to take milk, coffee and sugar until Wednesday! Is there a worse punishment??? NO! Give me prison time or hard labor, but please let me have my coffee!!!

Now, about the Vaseline on the dressing table, I must say that it is a beauty secret weapon. I read an interview with a hands and feet model, who said that her maintenance regime is applying Vaseline. Also, one of my beauty manuals, either About Face or Pretty Honest, says to use it on the face at night. So cool!

Lipstick and beauty manuals are a small consolation when coffee is off the menu ☕️

HOME VALUES (REASONS TO EXPECT AUTUMN PART 2)

I was ill with food poisoning -still not well- so The Lipstick Papers sadly got left behind. These photos are from a few days ago, with the 2nd reason to expect autumn: a shawl, gift from a dear friend! Shawls had great cultural value (they were cultural capital, as Bourdieu would say) for the Victorians, and I think that they are still seen as classy.

The Victorians saw the shawl as something exotic - the materials, and sometimes the shawl itself, came from the East. Also, it signified the home values of fashion, elegance and domesticity.
I guess for us the shawl will mean Hermes, Paris couture and all that's feminine. The new, pretty pink shawl is, for me, another reason to expect autumn, a season I really dislike 🤔

PLANNING PERMISSION

My tattoos would disqualify me from having an affair with Edward Monkford, the protagonist in The Girl Before, who absolutely disliked tattoos on women. Still, I adore mine, and what more relaxing way to spend the Saturday morning than getting a new tattoo? None! Here I am at Chris Mallas Tattoo Studio, where I got a new pretty tattoo on the cleavage. I will premiere it in The Lipstick Papers soon 😀

Luckily, I feel no pain with tattoos. Chris has a very light touch too. I nearly fell asleep today 💄You can see how beautiful the two boys have made the studio.

Of course, this is not going to be the last tattoo! I have big plans 😇

P.S. Edward Monkford is, for me, the best book boyfriend after Christian Grey
