99 RED BALLOONS

I wasn't going to pose with hearts and red balloons today, I'd rather pose with a Victorian novel containing a Valentine! This is Thomas Hardy's Far from the Madding Crowd. In the book, protagonist Bathsheba Everdeen (Catniss's literary predecessor?) sends a Valentine to one of her neighbors, just to tease him. This makes the guy, who didn't like Everdeen previously, fall madly in love with her. The power of the Valentine is obvious.

I don't like Far from the Madding Crowd, partly because I identify with bad boy Francis Troy and utterly dislike good guy Gabriel Oak. I find the good guy revolting and plainly dull. As for the Valentine card neighbor, he is silly beyond words.
Still, Valentine is a lovely name, and all in all a good tradition. Its roots go back to Christian legend; Valentine was a young man who was executed for his faith in Roman times. He left a card to his beloved, saying, from your Valentine. Later, he became a Saint, with his own special day! 💝🌹💋
The Victorians celebrated Valentine, and you can see some Victorian Valentines, which I have uploaded here.

Have a good evening, and may the beauty of love be always with you! Xxx 🌹👠💄💋💝💄💄
P.S. The title to the post comes from a lovely 80s song.
