ON THE COVER OF A MAGAZINE

New old pictures from Limassol a few months ago. No one likes to remember winter, but they are perfect for this Victorian recipe for cold cream. I found it in the January 11, 1865 issue of Bow Bells magazine!

The Victorians prepared many things at home, including cloth dye, cleaning liquids, polish, and cosmetics. Commercialization and the industrial revolution were well underway, of course, with the first department stores opening in London. Thank goodness for that: who would want to manufacture everything at home??? Not me!
Bow Bells was a magazine addressed to middle class ladies. There were magazines targeting the working class too, while many servant girls, cooks, ladies maids and so on read books and magazines their mistress bought. The Victorian was the age which democratized reading and the magazine.

Have a great afternoon and be well! 💄💝💋❤️
